More Types of Painting

Tempera is produced by mixing the earth or mineral pigment with egg yolk or egg white. The paint dries quickly and corrections are difficult to make. The artist should be precise and exact. The design must be well planned. Tempera painting is usually done on a wooden combination of gypsum or chalk and gelatin or glue.

Encaustic
is painting by wax. It is the application of a mixture of hot beeswax, resin and pigment to any porous surface, followed when the surface cools, it is polished with cloth. This is one of the early mediums used by the egyptians, greeks and romans to paint portraits on coffins.

Mosaic
is related to painting because it creates picture on a flat surface. The picture or decoration is made of small pieces of inlaid colored stones or hassles called tesseral glued on a sureface with plaster or cement. Mosaic art is an important feature of Byzantine churches.

Stained Glass
is made by combining small pieces of colored glass which are held together by bands of lead. This artwork saints and in effect, also serves as a means of religious instructions to Christians. Stained glass widows showing events in the Bible are commonly found in Philippine churches.
